Crossing

07.18.2010
Today I am working on binding a book.  It  contains the archival records of the ancestry of my maternal grandfather's family.
These records were given to me by my older sister who got them from my grandfather's niece who carried out all of the research.  Most of the documents are from the Moravian Archives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
This is a labor of love of sorts.  The pages were in a file folder and I wanted them to be preserved and protected from damage.  What better way than to bind them myself by hand.

Wild Hen.  By day, I work with technology.
By night I weave, paint, bind books, knit, sew, write.
I enjoy reading, primarily non-fiction but also some
historical fiction and on occassion a little sci-fi.
I love learning and teaching myself new things.
Learning makes my life joyful.

This site is a new incarnation of the original WildHen.com
and is a work in progress.  Please visit often to
see what new and interesting things appear.

Three hardcover books
Here are two of my first hardcover books.

The book on the right has a moosehide spine
covering.  The little booklets in the front
of the photo are made from scraps and close
with a length of leather cord and a glass bead.

SqueakyCheese.JPGHere is my very first attempt at making
Squeaky Cheese from fresh goat's milk.

It is so delicious.  Thanks to Pam
and Tom and their goat Rugosa, from
whose milk this cheese was made.
